Description This desk is a true labor of love for students.
The artist is an educator who wanted the opportunity to use her creative side to display her professional side. Students
wrote everything you see on the desk. It's about what students have on their minds today. It would be
a wonderful asset to a health and human services office, a hallway in a middle school, a pediatrician's office,
a library, a hospital foyer, or a library.

Artists Statement:
I have chosen this because I face
it everyday. I realize that even though every school is supplied with counselors, psychologists and social
workers it isn’t enough. Being a good teacher is not only mastering the content. Using
a little bit of care and understanding goes a long way in the classroom. This is being made more and more
clear as the years go by. Basically, this is the epitome of why the social/emotional standards were created.
About the Artist
My name is Jeannie Sellers and I am 24 years old. I grew up in Palatine, IL and moved to Lake in the Hills during high
school. I graduated Huntley High School in 2001. I ventured off to Northern Illinois University right after high
school, where I received my Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. At this time I am in the process of obtaining
my Masters in Education through Judson University. It will be completed in July of 2008. I am currently in my third year
of teaching for District 300. I taught eighth grade math, language arts and literature at Algonquin Middle School for
two years and am now at Westfield Community School teaching seventh grade math and language arts. I have learned the
value of education through both of my parents, mainly my mom who is also employed by District 300. I have always had
a love for the arts. Writing my own stories when I was seven, participating in high school visual art shows, and creating
almost everything by hand in my classroom are just a few of the ways I have had to express myself. Other things I enjoy
doing are being with friends and family, traveling, cooking, and shopping.
