What is an Innovation Grant?
Proposed by a District 300 Educator in February of each year and awarded
in March of each year for the next school year.
•The
grant must be unique and never done before.
•The grant must be innovative with clear goals aligned with State Education Standards. •Project
goals must be measurable. •Innovation Grants must not exceed $500. •As are all of our grants, none of the grant money is used
to pay teachers’ stipends.
How do I apply for an Innovation Grant?
In the January / February
time frame the Foundation notifies the principals in each building that the time to be thinking about submission for an Innovation
Grant is upon them and to please get out the word to their teachers.
The principals are given the forms
to be filled out. They are encouraged to have their teachers participate.
Each year we award at least ten
grants at $500 each. One of those grants is chosen to be the Higgins Memorial Grant.
You must submit Part
A and Part B listed below. DEADLINE
IS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2012 at the Administration Building, Attention Mary Gross.

Grants Engineers Teaching Algebra
Karie Will, a D300 DMS innovative
educator explains her real world hands-on examples of why we need Algebra. Her innovative grant also provides
Career Education to middle school students. Good job Karie!!!
The program is entitled
Engineers Teaching Algebra and consisted of a ninety minute lesson showcasing the algebra behind engineering. Mark Love, a
Civil Engineer from New Jersey, presented a traffic problem to students. Students were asked to determine the appropriate
time for each light phase of an intersection. Students had to consider all possibilities for every lane and take into account
where traffic flow conflicts could occur. The presenter stressed the importance of estimating, not relying on a calculator,
working as a team, and the use of algebra in making computations easier. The program was very relevant and it is my hope to
make this program annual. - Karie A. Will, DMS 8th Grade Algebra/Math/Language
