Description
A contemporary statement on the greening of our communities.  The artist,a Dundee Crown High School student, took many science and math classes which changed the way she wants to live her life by making a difference.  Her highly acclaimed science educators instilled in her the way we should all work to green up where we live.  She has dedicated this desk to them.  Recycling centers, township halls, libraries, college and high school labs, corporations working toward being more green would be very fortunate to have this art piece adorn their foyers or classrooms.   It is a delightful piece dedicated to wonderful people.

Artists Statement:

This desk emphasizes the importance of recycling.  The bold green color and use of common environmental sayings stress the importance of being kind to our world. The colorful link of children holding hands symbolizes that we must keep children in mind when planning for the future.

There are many ways to recycle used products.  One is to change a product into a piece of art with a little imagination and supports the saying “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.”  The most common way to recycle is the collection of recyclable material and use them in the manufacturing of new consumer products.

Dundee Crown High School has been a model for many schools on becoming involved in environmental issues.  Gary Swick is an environmental science teacher who takes an active role in making students aware of environmental issues that will affect their future.  Dundee Crown is actively involved in a recycling program.  Students volunteer to help with the recycling effort.

This desk should be considered a piece of art which hopefully will be kept out of the trash stream which is overburdening our landfills.  This is a perfect example of recycling.

About the Artists

As I entered high school there were a lot of unknowns, I did not know which field of study would grab my attention.  The field of journalism called me as a writer and photographer for the Dundee Crown school newspaper during my freshman and sophomore years. To challenge myself and work on the creative aspects of journalism, I became the Lay-Out Editor during my junior year.  My senior year I served as the Editor in Chief where one of my primary goals is to prepare future journalists to carry the high standard that has been set at the D-C Times.

I had the opportunity to use my creative side by working on the video yearbook and taking as many design and computer classes as possible.  I had the great fortune of meeting many great friends through my three years spent on the girls’ soccer team.

The inspiration for the desk came from my time spent with Mr. Swick who is an environmental science teacher who taught me a great deal about taking care of our planet.  I was able to attend an environmental conference in Wisconsin where Dundee Crown took first place.  This desk is dedicated to those who choose to make our world a better place by recycling.

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I enjoy working on the computer and learning about the field of journalism.  In the future, I will be attending Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana where I will be studying journalism.
