About the Artist
Creating art has been an
outlet of meditation and peace in my life. My most cherished childhood memories include a large tub of
broken crayons, with dozens of coloring books surrounding me as I lay on the floor. High School art classes
opened my eyes to the possibilities that art had to offer. These classes allowed me to explore using a
variety of art materials for the first time.
Struggling with what path I should
take led me to move on and pursue other avenues after high school. I took advantage of a few very successful
career opportunities, which contributed to my growth as an individual. Unfortunately, I soon found myself
bored to death in the corporate world, which forced me to reevaluate my life goals.
I enrolled in college and graduated with a degree in fine arts from Judson University in 2000. I
began teaching at the River Street Art Center in Dundee, worked as an art director at a summer camp in New York and then taught
art at the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee. From 2000 to the present I have also worked for District 300
as a substitute teacher and as a paraprofessional. I am grateful for my years working with District 300
and find the students I work with inspire me every day.
Most of my artistic
skills and style can be seen as a compilation of skills acquired through my years in the work force. Working
in a nursery surrounded by vibrant flowers and plants kept all of my senses occupied. Years as a chiropractic
assistant and optician has given me a heightened appreciation for the human form. The corporate world helped
me work fast and find creative ways to problem solve in my works and life. Working as an educator has allowed
me to see others perspective.
Future plans for art include: the continuing
development of my artistic skills and work through exploration of ideas, techniques and the reevaluation of artistic goals
and intent. For more information about the artist or her works please email A1Elizabeth2002@yahoo.com.
