Description The uniqueness of this art is truly academic.
It's a love letter to all educators while recognizing the efforts of those working to support education. It provides
the viewer with history, offers interactive opportunities to add your own educational story, but best of all it is reminicient
of a childhood-gone-by with the carvings in the wood, the apple and ink well, the green chalk board paint on the body, and
I bet if you look there's a wad of gum somewhere too. This would be wonderful in a teachers lounge, or the IEA local
or state offices, a local historical site, the foyer of any school, book store, or publishing company.

Artist Statement: Our piece celebrates extraordinary, and often controversial,
contributions made to better public education by extraordinary women. While we feel that everyone who
dedicates their time, energy and life to the education of kids is extraordinary; we chose these particular state and
national figures because they stand out even among this impressive class. The names
of the women are either carved or painted on the desk. Their contribution (and where available an interesting quote
from or about them) is listed in the book inside the desk. This piece is dedicated in
particular to Helen Zettler, Mom and Nana to the artists and a teacher in the public school system for more than 20 years.
We love you!
